The Chadar Trek is not just a trek—it's a walk across a frozen river, a test of endurance, and a spiritual journey through the icy heart of Ladakh. For eight surreal days, I walked on the glassy surface of the frozen Zanskar River, surrounded by towering cliffs and absolute silence, broken only by the crunch of my boots and the occasional crack of shifting ice.
Each morning began in sub-zero temperatures, layering up before stepping back onto the "chadar" (ice sheet). The frozen waterfalls, caves, and sheer beauty of the snow-clad Zanskar valley made every shiver worth it. The highlight? Reaching the Nerak waterfall—a surreal curtain of frozen blue ice that felt like nature’s own sculpture.
It wasn’t easy—temperatures dropped below -20°C, and every step had to be carefully placed—but the sense of achievement at the end was like no other. If you're looking for adventure, solitude, and raw Himalayan beauty, the Chadar Trek will leave you changed forever.
